“Having lived in Southeast Raleigh since 1969, I have witnessed many changes that have occurred therein. In recent years, the YMCA has provided and supported various programs in this community that have given our youth the same experiences that youth in other communities enjoy. Yet, the construction of a facility adds a feeling of permanence to these services in that there is a home for them.
The site that houses the building has undergone an unbelievable appearance which in itself adds dignity to the community. Educational and recreational opportunities presented by the YMCA will elevate the sense of belonging to the residents of the community. Partnering with Wake County Public Schools emphasizes that both institutions share the mission of enhancing the community. Beacon Site is well named in that it is and will continue to be a major symbol of what our city can and should be to all its citizens.”
