STATEMENT OF STRATEGY | 2020 - 2023
TOBIN
Message from the Managing Director
This Statement of Strategy sets out our Vision for the period 2020 to 2023 and the strategic objectives and actions
underpinning our refreshed direction. The Board has prepared this Strategy following consultation with staff through
our divisional teams, our strategy development team and Executive Team. This engagement considered those markets,
sectors and Clients where we believe we should be targeting our efforts. It also considered our culture and values; the
expectations as set down within our Guiding Principles and the issues that inform the type of business we wish to
continue to be.
Our engagement has been considered against the backdrop of an economy which has recovered from the depths of
the recession in 2007. We appear to have reached peak employment, and we are at a point where attracting and
retaining staff will be essential for our growth into the future. The market is quite different now though when compared
to that pre-recession; in that it is ever evolving in terms of the pace of change. Those entering our workforce now are
digital natives, and we will harness these skills within our digital strategy, adapting our existing systems towards a fully
digital approach in connected data environments. Our Clients and partners are on this path too, so we will need to be
flexible in the way we engage with them, being proactive and collaborative in the way we solve problems, while always
considering the evolving financial and technical risks the market will present.
Under our commercial objectives, we plan to grow our business in the coming years to 140 staff, delivering 10% profit
and €12M turnover per annum. This growth will occur in a balanced way across each of our offices in Galway, Dublin
and Castlebar, bringing exciting opportunities for career advancement and allow us to work together as “One TOBIN” in
an integrated way. Each division has been assigned strategic objectives and actions within this plan and we will keep
these under review in the coming three years. This is not a strategy therefore that is derived from a static position
adopted at a point in time, rather it is designed to be dynamic in nature, evolving over the envisaged lifetime of this
document up to 2023. This means that right across our business, we will continually identify those Clients and partners
we wish to work with and those who wish to work with us. We will proactively engage with them, understand their
strategies and ambitions early on, persuade them that by trusting us to bring our competencies to their projects that we
can steer them on the right path and add value for them. Continuous engagement with Clients is not a new approach
for us, rather it is a refinement and maturity of what we know works well in the market, where we seek to always be
appointed at the earliest possible point in any project.
Our people strategy has been designed to be at the core of the delivery of these objectives. We will continue to invest in
technical excellence and leadership progression, in coaching, mentoring and career path development, aligning these
investment programmes to our overall business requirements. We will develop policies on flexible working
arrangements, the promotion of diversity and inclusion in our business, staff engagement / wellbeing and getting our
work / life balance right. We want our business to continue to grow as a great place to work and to be an Employer of
choice. These investments and policies are integral to the growth of our business into the future and we will work
proactively in the development of our DNA together.
It will take courage, leadership and hard work by us all to deliver this Strategy over the coming years and I have no
doubt we will be successful when we collectively apply ourselves to the problems that will inevitably arise. It’s a
humbling experience to lead the fantastic team we have working in the business today and I very much look forward to
going on the journey with you all over the coming years.
