UNDER 15 - TEAM REPORTS Under 15 BLUE
The 15 Blues started the season with 5 new players joining from last season’s gold team (Reyhan, Alastair, Sachman, Vinoshan and Luca), and 2 players returning after a season away (Jack and Liam). So it took a few weeks for the boys to all get to know each other and work out each other’s style. One thing that became more and more apparent as the season progressed though was that no matter how they performed on the field, the boys were going to have a lot of fun.
The year was littered with some great individual performances and when the boys were focussed they played extremely well as a unit. Alastair, Jack, Josh R, and Liam all made huge improvements with their bowling, and Ansh, Luca, Sachman and Reyhan were as ever reliable and bowled consistently all season. With so many excellent bowling options the team never fell short.
On the batting side Rishab had a standout season and really had a break through year. Aden and Luc were consistent as always and chipped in for plenty of runs. Josh T played in his usual aggressive way and went ever so close to his first half century (it will definitely come next season).
And in the least popular (but most important) part of the game, fielding, both Tommy and Vinoshan stood out. Giving 100% each week and making a huge difference. When heads were down and things weren’t going our way, it just took one piece of brilliance to pick the team up again.
A special thanks to Luc for captaining the team. This was Luc’s first season as captain and he did an outstanding job leading the team.
Finally a big thanks to Arjun for all his time and effort in managing the team, making sure everyone knew where they needed to be and what they needed to do. You’ve done this for quite a few years now and continue to keep the team ticking. And to a great parent group who umpired, scored, helped with training, helped set up and pack up the grounds a huge thanks.
I am very proud of this great bunch of young men and it was an absolute pleasure coaching you through the season!
Under 15 WHITE
This year the team welcomed five players – Selwyn, Patrick, Saraang and Rajat (from last year’s Gold team) and Saad who had his first season with the Club. It therefore took some time for the boys to get to know each other’s strengths and preferences.
In our first game of the season against Berowra, while our regular bowlers were still ironing out their lines and lengths, Manju hit the ground running and picked up 2 wickets in his first over! Sadly, Manju suffered a season-ending injury off-field and could not repeat his magic again. We missed you, Manju, and hope that you’ll be back next season to pick up where you left off.
In previous years, we have struggled with finding a regular opening batting pair, but in just our second game, we found the ‘right’ combination! Arjuna and Adi had a wonderful 160 run first wicket partnership that set a strong foundation for the rest of the team to score freely. Samarth played a great knock and posted his highest score of the season. This helped us to a team score of 308 – our highest this season! A couple of matches later, we witnessed a special innings from the flamboyant Pat Dixon – 103 not out against Beecroft in a magnificent exhibition of clean hitting! We’ll all remember that very special knock, Pat. That match also witnessed our left-arm, right-arm opening bowler duo of Saarujan and Pratham generate some serious pace and swing. Between them they took 5 wickets and derailed Beecroft’s chase to win us the game.
As the season progressed, Selwyn and Mukund produced some fantastic fast bowling, and troubled batsmen with a measure of aggressive short pitched bowling mixed with some wonderfully deceptive slow balls.
