Game 3 – Bye
To give the boys some much needed game time a 26 over-a-side father and son match was played. The sons were confident of beating the old-timers. Too many highlights to report here. You’ll need to watch the video (again).
Game 4 Vs Castle Hill
Against a team containing 6 rep players, the Blues took to the field and our bowling was of such high quality, that although only 6 wickets were taken, the team was able to restrict the opposition to 6/180.
On week 2, Connor (9) and Xander (25) saw off the new ball and this allowed Zac time to settle. Another great batting performance from Zac (64) saw the Blues reach 4/120 with 20 overs remaining to get the 61 runs required. With the game in the balance, Riley (35no) and Dylan (28no) were just superb and knocked off the runs, with 10 overs to spare! They made it look easy, yet this was achieved against a good bowling attack - a stand out batting masterclass boys! This was a faultless team performance against a very good opposition.
Game 5 Vs Kenthurst
This will be remembered as Dylan’s match. Kenthurst reached 1/74. Up to the bowling crease stepped Dylan. 3 wickets in his first spell and 2 in his second. Dylan finished with the remarkable figures of 5/9 from 9.5 overs and Kenthurst were bowled out for 131. The batters performed very well again with Connor (52no), Xander (35), Dylan (30no), Tom (28), Sam (17) and Riley (17) all enjoying their time at the crease. The Blues finished 8/229 declared.
Game 6 Vs WPHC Gold
The next match was against our Gold team, the eventual competition winners. With one ofUo1u6rBblueesst cbeolewbrlaitningg after a wi performances, the Blues knocked over the Golds for just 92, with early wickets to Andrew (2/19) and with
Ed (2/10) and Dylan (3/7) doing the rest of the damage. Starting week 2 at 2/25, Zac, with night watchman
Ed (8), led the way. Zac scored an authoritative 56. The Blues finished their innings at 8/216 with Dylan
(34), Sam (29), Tom (19) and Nick (17no) also amongst the runs. The Golds decided to bat again finishing at 1/15, Andrew 1/3.
Game 7 Vs WPHC White
The White team had the competition’s top run scorer in their ranks. The quality of the Blues bowling attack, supported by some exceptional fielding, resulted in the Blues dismissing the White team for 161. Xander (3/23), Andrew (2/18) and Tom (2/15) being the main wicket takers. Without the services of Sam for this game, the team were down a batsman. Connor (21) and Zac (14) made good starts but the Blues were in trouble at 5/85 and then 7/121. Dylan was still in and batting extremely well but needed someone in the lower order to support him. With little batting during the season it was John who came in and played the cool hand that was needed. In scoring his 8 runs he resisted the Whites for 27 balls and never looked like getting out, helping the Blues to pass the White score with 3 overs remaining. Dylan was magnificent with the bat scoring an unbeaten 74 to guide the team home to a total of 7/166 declared.
Game 8 Vs Normanhurst
It was 1st (Blues) vs 2nd (Normanhurst) for the first game back from the Christmas break. Normanhurst started their innings very well and their early aggressive batting saw them well placed at 2/106 with around 7 overs still to bowl. However, the Blues’ NGU attitude was on full display in the field and a brilliant
run out by John (I never miss the stumps when I need to hit) Kurian turned the match and, remarkably, Normanhurst were dismissed in the 31st over for just 115. Connor (2/0) and Areeb (3/22) were the main contributors to the carnage. A confident 22 from Xander and a disciplined 53 from Zac saw the Blues reach 4/99 with around 7 overs to get the remaining runs. 2 quick wickets fell but it was Dylan’s (26no) maturity again on display as he secured victory, hitting the winning runs with 5 balls remaining – Blues 6/122.
