Stage 2- McGrath
If you told me at the beginning of the season we would finish minor premiers, make the grand final and almost away with the chocolates I would have said you were crazy. Boy was I wrong!
The 2023/24 Stage 2 McGrath team came together with a mixture of returning player and those new to the team. As with previous season we set of with 3 goals to achieve to consider the season a success we wanted to
1. end the season with a happy team, with all players feeling that they have contributed equally
2. have fun but still compete
3. ensure all players ended the season better cricketers than when they started
Not only did we achieve all of these goals, we exceeded them winning 12 out of 15 games and finishing minor premiers in a very competitive competition. Unfortunately, we were beaten by a better team on the day narrowly losing in the grand-final.
We are extremely proud of how the girls have improved and progressed throughout the season.
We focused on maximum participation, ensuring by the end of the season each player had equal opportunity in all roles. This meant when a required for a role the girls and the experience and confidence to fulfil it.
There is no doubt each girl is a far better cricketer at the end of the season than the beginning. Participation over results and it worked!
It takes a village to have a happy and successful cricket team, and our village was awesome!
Thank you to all parents, siblings, grandparents and friends for supporting the girls all year. Coming to the games, umpiring, scoring, transport, etc. this support is a huge contribution to the girls succeeding. A very special thanks to Rama our tireless manager for his help and never-ending support this year.
We are extremely proud of you girls, and we congratulate you on your efforts and attitudes during the season.
Of my many years coaching, this year may have been the most rewarding. Thank you for a wonderful season team.
Maahnoor Bajwa – our pint-sized left arm leg spinner who mesmerised the opposition with ripping leg breaks. She was a crowd favourite at every venue.
Hannah Croaker – improvement through the roof! Progressed to have the second-best bowling stats. Also, the best at almost getting a hat-trick with at least three chances in the season.
Mae Herring – always positive and puts the team first. Huge development in her wicket keeping saw her keep for entire matches on many occasions which is impressive
Eva House – Talented cricketer with the potential to go far. Congratulations on earning the bowling award with 10 wickets.
Prisha Joshi – focused on improving her bowling and by the end of the season was one our most economical. She also ensured the team was sufficiently fuelled bringing plenty of snacks and drinks each week
Trisha Yadav – A passionate cricketer who seems to play cricket at every waking moment. Congratulations on earning the batting award with 235 runs at 39.17 average. Four innings retired not out on 30.
