Welcome from Judy
Even the most significant of philanthropic gifts usually start with a simple conversation, a concept, a vision about how a donor can provide funding for a gift that aligns with the most pressing needs of the hospital.
This is the case with The Robert and Jeanne Szeto PET-CT Centre, as the realisation of a vision shared by Dr Edwin Szeto, Nuclear Medicine Radiologist at the San. Dr Szeto recognised the importance of providing state-of- the-art imaging services to ensure that our expert medical staff would have access to advanced technology that greatly enhances early detection and treatment of cancer and brain disease.
Dr Szeto’s vision became a reality, and the opening of The Robert and Jeanne Szeto PET-CT Centre was a momentous occasion attended by the Szeto Family, representatives from Federal and State Parliament and the many staff members at the San that were involved in this inspiring project. The Szeto Family considered many different philanthropic projects
at many different hospitals, and their decision to entrust this significant philanthropic gift to the Sydney Adventist Hospital was in recognition of an organisation that “lives and practices its values each and every day”.
Another inspiring story is from a beloved staff member, Caroline Laredo, who within days of receiving a devastating breast cancer diagnosis, called the San Foundation to ask how she could harness the love and support of the San community into financial support for vital breast cancer research. Caroline’s decision
to redirect the focus from her personal fight to a focus on breast cancer research is inspiring and we have included details of how you can support Caroline’s campaign.
There are so many ways to support the San, and if lacing up your runners and participating
in the City to Surf 2024 sounds good, please join the San Steppers as we raise funds to support our Cardiac Services. You will be in good company on Heartbreak Hill as we are expecting many cardiac surgeons and nurses to join
the team!
The Cardiac Services Team are grateful to supporters of the San Foundation for enabling the recent purchase of a new ECMO Heart and Lung machine. This machine provides life support for patients in critical or life-threatening situations such as emergency surgery or prolonged critical illness. Thanks to your generosity, the San was also able to donate an older ECMO heart and lung machine to the Victor Chang Institute for medical research.
As we approach the end of the financial year, we hope that
you consider supporting the Sydney Adventist Hospital when making decisions about how your philanthropic gifts can best support our community. Your support ensures that the San remains at the forefront of world class care, with access
to state of the art technology, upgraded facilities, and access to scholarships for ongoing training.
The San Foundation team take great pride in ensuring that your experience of supporting the hospital is as easy and impactful as possible. You are always welcome to drop by our office
at the entrance of the hospital, log on to our website at www.sanfoundation.org.au or give us a call on 9480 9600.
Please enjoy the inspiring stories enclosed and know that we are working hard to ensure that every donation makes the greatest possible impact at the San.
