Jaylen: A very accurate and reliable bowler, Jaylen kept it tight and kept challenging those stumps. He was one of a handful of bowlers to take at least 10 wickets this season. A fantastic contribution in the field also, leading the team in throwing clumps of mowed grass, rescuing lizards, and performing some fantastic run-outs, so Jaylen gets the Nathan Lyon award.
Jude: Every time someone called out “Hey, Jude!” my mind went straight to “...don’t make it bad. Take a sad song, and make it better.” Rookie season for Jude, who worked on learning and improving his skills throughout the season. He’s starting to develop some nice shots down the ground, and proved to be a very economical bowler, with the highlight being his two-for against archrivals WPH Green.
Satvik: The fourth rookie for the Whites this season, Satvik came to the team with a bit of a baseball background, which would explain his natural penchant for hitting across the line. He came back from the Christmas break and suddenly started playing some beautiful straight drives. Not sure if this new skill came from his coach or Santa, but it proved very effective in the second half of the season. Also finished the season as the most enthusiastic runner between wickets. So keen has he become that even a run-out no longer stops him from turning and taking off for a second, so Satvik gets the Dean Jones award.
Zac: The Zac-attack plundered 200 runs at greater than a run-a-ball and was a constant danger to a dozy square leg umpire with his powerful pull shot. Showed his versatility by being the first batter all season to intentionally defend two consecutive deliveries. With the ball in hand, he clean-bowled a poor opposition batter with the very first delivery of the season and went on to become the equal- leading wicket taker. Zac therefore wins the Cameron Green award.
Blue
What an incredible season it's been for the WPHCCC U10 Blue team! It was truly satisfying to witness their growth, not just as individual players, but as a cohesive unit. Their teamwork, unwavering effort, and constant encouragement for one another were a joy to behold. We saw remarkable improvements in everyone's skills throughout the season, and it's clear their passion for the game has blossomed.
It was my privilege to coach such a fantastic group of young cricketers. This season's success wouldn't have been possible without the dedication of all the parents who consistently brought their kids to training and matches – thank you for your commitment! A huge shout-out also to Prashant and Craig, and to everyone who stepped in to help with training sessions; your support was invaluable. And a special mention to our scorers, who masterfully navigated those complicated scoring sheets!
Player Highlights:
Saanvi: Our sole female player, Saanvi, is a force to be reckoned with! Her infectious enthusiasm and big smile light up the field. Often underestimated by the opposition, she consistently proves them
