With a cheerful, curious chatter, the gaggle of geese welcomes us, expectantly, as guests brought in by the farmer Dieter Haas and his wife Friedrun. The goose breeder seems to be able to read minds, since we had already assumed that the happy chatter was for us, the visitors. „Their interest is not so much directed at you,“ Dieter Haas disillusions us, „they are waiting impatiently for me to open the barn for them and allow them to graze in the vast pastures.“ But this will not come to pass in the next few hours, the breeder informs us. It had rained heavily the previous night, now the way to the pasture is completely soaked. „If we were to drive them across this path now, their plumage would get completely clogged up with mud, that is not good for the animals.“ The geese will have to wait a few more hours until the trail dries up, then they will be released back into the open air.
