Die Vorliebe Seiberths für die Rieslinge kommt nicht von ungefähr. Er bezeichnet sie voller Hochachtung als den „König der Weißweine”.
Weingutpächter Axel Seiberth prüft mit einer Probe, wie sich der 17er entwickelt hat.

Bekömmliche Rieslinge
Als Einstieg in die Verkostung stellt uns Seiberth seinen Liter-Riesling vor, einen QbA, mit vollmundigem P rsicharoma und niedriger Säure von 6,5 Promille. Dennoch vollmundig und spritzig, der bei der Landesweinprämierung mit der Goldmedaille ausgezeichnet wurde.
Gespannt sind wir auf den Rosé von der Kalkgasse, der aus besagtem Rotberger gekeltert wurde. Der halbtrockene Wein, mit zartrosa Farbe und sanftem Erdbeer- Himbeerduft begleitet, wurde mit Silber bei der Landesweinprämierung ausgezeichnet. Eine kräftig-fruchtige Begegnung haben wir mit dem Weißen Burgunder. Die 12,5 Prozent Alkohol deuten auf die lange Reife des Weines hin. Auch der Graue Burgunder überzeugte bei der Landesweinprämierung mit Gold und präsentiert im Bukett nachhaltige gelbe Früchte.
With a 92 degree in Oechsel (sweetness), Seiberth harvested the late Riesling, also from the Kalkgasse. The gentle scent of ripe peaches can again be inhaled. Despite the low acidity of 8.5 per thousand, a convincing sweet-acid interplay. This wine also received gold.
The gold medals for the Bensheim city vineyard continues in the Cuveé from Dornfelder and Pinot Noir. Seiberth left his 2014 Kirchberg, late Burgunder red wine and its “brother” in the oak barrels to mature. Storage for almost three-years allowed both wines to mature very well.
Destination Kirchberghäuschen
While we have repeatedly spoken of the excellent location of the Kirchberg, the jewel of the Bensheim winery, the Kirchberghäuschen, should not go unmentioned. A popular and frequently visited place of excursion for locals and tourists, belonging to the leasehold of the vineyard, which can be reached after the challenging climbing trail on the highest peak of the mountain.
“No gain without pain”, the hiker is likely to notice after a strenuous trip to the mountaintop when their gaze wanders over the beautiful vineyards and lands on the beautiful town of Bensheim in the valley. The reward for the efforts of the hiker beckons in the wines of the city and in the often praised buffet of the tenant. Well deserved!
