A winemaker’s heart beats for Riesling
Even at the rst, briefest look in the wine list of the city of Bensheim’s winery it stands out: The heart of the winemaker belongs to the cultivation of Riesling. “In our winery, you will nd Rieslings in all variations and quality levels,” says tenant Axel Seiberth. He comes from a winegrowing family in the Palatinate Meckenheim. After studying Oenology, a number of years of apprenticeship and travelling followed until his further career in 1978 led him to the state winery and the Hessische Bergstraße, where he worked as a cellar master for nine years. In 1987, he joined the service of the winery of the city of Bensheim as a manager and since 2000 has been the tenant of the winery.
Seiberth’s preference for Rieslings is no coincidence. With great reverence, he calls it the “king of white wines”. 70 percent of our assortment are Rieslings, which we harvest - starting with the tasty estate wine to the very nely-fruity late harvest - in excellent qualities and diligently produce in our cellars.” The winegrower’s personal touch stands out with Rieslings: low-acid and well-structured wines are emphasised that are also good for sensitive stomachs. This does not impair the liveliness of the low-acid wines nor the pleasant freshness that the acid brings.
