Mit dem Auerbacher Chardonnay schließt Rothweiler die Reise durch die Welt der Pinots ab. Auch er hat einen Barriquetouch mitbekommen, präsentiert sich mit kräftigem Körper.
Rote mit viel Gehalt
Wir sind schon gespannt, was uns Hanno Rothweiler von seinen Roten serviert - und um es vorweg zu sagen, wir sind überwältigt. Rotweine, die in der Palette des Weltmarktangebotes keine Vergleiche zu scheuen brauchen. Mit dem von ihm ausgewählten Sankt Laurent, eine alte und wiederentdeckte Rotweinsorte, ist ihm bereits der Griff in das Oberklasseregal gelungen, preislich jedoch in der Mittelklasse angesiedelt. Das Kirscharoma, fette Schwarzkirsche, prägend für den St. Laurent, erfährt seine Veredlung durch das weiche Holz. Mit 13 Prozent Alkohol kein Leichtgewicht auch unter den Roten. „Der St. Laurent ist im Weinberg ein sehr schwieriger Kandidat. Der starke Rebwuchs muss im Zaum gehalten werden, die dicht aneinander gereihten Beeren neigen im Reifezustand zum Fäulnisbefall und er erwartet gute Lagen mit kalkhaltigen und tiefgründigen Böden,” sagt Rothweiler zu den Ansprüche der Reben und im Ertrag ist der St. Laurent unsicher.
handcrafted to make into a premium wine. This was preceded by a three-week fermentation where the berries had not been picked from the stems. This was followed by the twelve months of nurturing in Canadian white oak barrels. The fermentation on the stems lends the wine a strong tannin. As we taste it, they dance all over our tongues. Its colour is deep red, reminiscent of black currant not only in its colour, but also its bouquet. The incredible density of the Syrah and the strong tannins are seductive. The twelve months of barrel ageing have allowed the wine to mature further. On the palate, we can feel the fullness of dried fruit, chocolaty, almost dark chocolate notes, cinnamon, and vanilla. Quite drinkable already, but the fullness of the taste and the 13% alcohol should allow it to continue to mature positively for many years to come.
