EARNING DISTINGUISHED KNIGHTHOOD:
Supporting Kids with Cancer
Why all the shaved heads? Worldwide a child is diagnosed with
cancer every two minutes, and one in five children diagnosed in the
United States will not survive. Before they turn 20, about 1 in 285
children will have cancer. With only four percent of all federal cancer
research funding dedicated to pediatric cancer research, St. Baldrick’s
Foundation volunteers, supporters and donors continue the battle
against this devastating disease.
Volunteer fund raisers who are sponsored by family, friends, and
employers shave their heads in solidarity with children who typically
lose their hair during cancer treatment. Shavees not only participate
in raising funds to cure childhood cancer, they also spread awareness
every time they show off their bald head!
