At the time of an incident, it is vital to have rapid access to data about the chemical. It is important therefore that the

chemical databases are purchased and installed, or that uninterrupted access to databases is established well before
an incident. The data required include:

 the physical characteristics of the chemical (these influence the way it disperses in the environment and how it

enters the body);

 the biological tests available to detect exposure and/or adverse health effects;

 environmental sampling techniques and equipment needed;

 lists of antidotes and decontamination procedures;

 medical signs and symptoms and methods of treatment.
