Keeping the waste in
Leaving the waste out of your die cuts is preferable in most cases, since it allows the full design to take form and opens up different layering options when it comes to making your card fronts and focal points.
Sometimes, though, you might want to keep the waste. This might be because the shape of the waste is actually ideal for another part of your project, such as a die that cuts a perfect circle as part of its waste.
With dies such as the Tattered Lace Venetian Mask, the waste cutting out from the eyes gives you lots of possibilities for how to use your resulting mask. In our example, we’ve made a second die cut with the waste secured in, and layered them together for a dimensional mask design.
To keep the waste in your die cuts, remove the die gently after cutting and use a bit of sticky tape on the reverse to hold it in place.
