PACK THE BAGS
Hotel guests can also enjoy a 24-hour gym, a swim in the
heated outdoor pool, in-room massages. And don’t forget
to arrange winter activities with the on-site partner Powder
House. And of course enjoy a 25,000-square-foot casino
floor featuring more than 500 state-of-the-art video gam-
ing machines and table games, including blackjack, craps,
roulette, ultimate Texas hold’em, three card poker, Pai Gow,
and more.
According to various national travel awards, a third resort
that stands out is the Lodge at Edgewood in Stateline, NV.
In just three short years, the Lodge at Edgewood has raised
the level of overall expectations with the 154-room lodge,
service and amenities, as well as golf packages at the stun-
ning Edgewood golf course, home of the annual American
Century Championship. Another Tahoe-area golf option
includes Clear Creek Tahoe. At North Shore, top tracks
include Old Brockaway, Incline Village Championship,
Incline Executive, and the Resort at Squaw Creek (located
at the opposite end of Squaw Valley, site of the 1960 Winter
Olympic Games).
Brockway’s history is legendary. In 1934-35, the course
hosted Bing Crosby’s Clambake, which is now the PGA
Tour’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Over decades, the
Whitehawk Ranch Golf Club
course has been a golf backdrop for legends like Frank
Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bob Hope, Dwight D. Eisenhower,
and most of the local mover and shakers from the area.
Today, Old Brockway remains family operated and boasts
value green fees seemingly stolen from the past.
Traveling about an hour north of the Truckee area, but stay-
ing in mountain environs, finds the small town of Graeagle
and Whitehawk Ranch Golf Club, the Dragon at Nakoma,
Graeagle Golf Course, Plumas Pines Golf Resort, and in
nearby Portola, Grizzly Ranch Golf Course. Golf and lodg-
ing options are offered in a stunning setting amongst the
High Sierras.
The par 71, 6,955-yard Whitehawk Ranch is played in a nat-
ural landscape, accented by steams, waterfalls and ponds,
as well as a variety of trees, including pines, cedars, and
aspens. The golf club was honored with the “Environmental
Award” from the California Golf Writers Association for
outstanding foresight, care, and planning to improve and
preserve the environment. Whitehawk Ranch was also
rated in Golfweek’s Best as the 10th Best Course to play in
California. As a premiere resort in the area, the Lodge at
Whitehawk offers 14 private-cabin experiences that over-
look the vistas and place you front and center for amenities
such as golf, mountain biking and hiking.
