om Shelstad, co-founder of Inner Guide Expeditions (IGE), grew up in
Ta lakeside cabin in Northern Minnesota. There, he spent most of his days
playing and interacting with the outside world. “I wanted to be outside play-
ing all the time. I was either riding my bike, building forts or riding my skate-
board. It was such a gift to me, the level of freedom and adventure that nature
provided,” Tom says, as his eyes widen with wonder. “That was throughout my
childhood and adolescence, which was an important piece of who I am today.”
