Phishing is the practise of obtaining personal or confidential information, such as
usernames, passwords or other details that can be used for fraudulent or illicit
purposes. This jeopardises the security of the individual and of the organisation.

Phishing attacks have become increasingly sophisticated, often using fake websites
which match the look and feel of a legitimate site in order to gain trust. Alternatively
emails with false links, text messages and instant messaging are also used.

Awareness of phishing techniques helps the individual to protect themselves and
ensure email security throughout their organisation, and is vital in today’s
technological world.
