What a Christian Believes
Just as a house, when it is built, relies on the soundness of
the foundation on which it stands and without a sound
foundation will eventually fall down, so it is with the Christian
and the elementary doctrines.
These teachings of the Bible are not just to be heard, learned
and spoken about. They are to be absorbed and retained,
rather like a piece of cloth that has been dyed. They are to
become a permanent part of the christian.
WHY? It is explained in Hebrews 6 v1 'Therefore let us
leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to
maturity, not laying again a foundation...'
It is the key to Christian Maturity.
Therefore, christians should not to be taught or learn these
doctrines in a non-systematic manner, nor should the
christian be casual in his approach to learning them.
The elementary doctrines will be to the christian:-
1. A strong foundation upon which a productive christian life
is built. That is to be an effective disciple.
2. A protection against all kinds of religious and cultural ideas
that are prevalent in every nation but are not necessarily true.
JESUS said this in John 8 v31, 32 'To the Jews who had
believed in Him. Jesus said "If you hold to my teaching,
you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth
and the truth shall set you free."
The Mature Christian will be an Effective Disciple, able to
disciple others by, initially, leading them to Christ and
then bringing them to maturity.
