A palatial two-story residence in one of the city’s grandest co-op buildings, owned for half a century by members of
the Wrigley family, sold after nearly eight years on the market and $9 million in price cuts.
The yet-to-be-named buyers paid $4.5 million on Jan. 30 for the nine-bedroom unit on the 14th and part of the 15th
floors of 1500 N. Lake Shore Drive. They paid about one-third of the $13.5 million that sellers David and Catherine
Hamilton were asking when they put the property on the market in February 2016.
The co-op’s interiors include 18th century wood paneling, fireplace mantels and a limestone staircase, all brought
over from France, and other sumptuous details described by the New York Times in 1999.
Crain’s could not reach the Hamiltons, and their listing agent, Millie Rosenbloom of Baird & Warner, did not
immediately respond to a request for comment. Janet Owen, the Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Chicago
agent who represented the buyers, also did not respond to a request for comment. The buyers are not yet identified
in public records.
