Financial service products must be illustrated and understood before they can be sold to a client. In the early 1970s, illustration was a very difficult and expensive problem, which severely limited the type and complexity of financial products that could be sold. At the time, writing special computer programs for each product usually created these illustrations. This was a very cumbersome formula that required IT involvement (and accompanying delays) for even the smallest change in the computer program.
I was able to create an office-suite type environment, which allowed marketing people to create their own illustrations on the fly. Although primitive by today’s standards, it gave them tremendous power, flexibility and speed-to-market for many new innovative financial products:
• Assurance Systems of Cincinnati, Ohio, was able to market very powerful financial-product illustration systems throughout the United States.
• Master Funding Corporation of Columbus,
