COREX TIPS + DO’s and DONT’s

           4 STEPS FOR HARVESTING WITH COREX:

            1. Create CORTICAL DEFECT using pre-attached & removable trocar tip

            2. OPEN to Harvest: [GREEN line aligned with Black line]

            3. CLOSE to Capture: [RED line aligned with Black line]

            4. ReOPEN to Deliver/Extrude harvested bone with provided tamp: [GREEN

                line aligned with Black line]

           TIPS

           1) CREATING CORTICAL DEFECT/WINDOW:

                  a) Apply light to moderate pressure* while rotating COREX alternatively
                      clockwise and counter-clockwise, with greater than 90 degrees of
                      rotation.

                      *{Similar to pressure applied when advancing pencil into electric
                      sharpener}

                  b) Advance trocar tip until resistance from cutting action is no longer felt
                      and trocar spins freely in rotation (shoulder stop on trocar is flush
                      against cortical surface).

                  c) AVOID excessive downward pressure and minimal rotation* as it leads to

                      embedding the trocar tip into the substrate without creating a circular
                      defect.

                      *{Audible CLICKING present while rotating device with trocar tip

                      attached = EXCESSIVE downward pressure}

                  d) If the cortex is particularly thick (e.g. proximal tibia versus iliac crest)
                      and you need to make more than two or three harvesting passes, wobble
                      the trocar tip while rotating to enlarge the cortical hole (after reaching
                      the shoulder stop).

           2) LOCKING the capture mechanism [ OPEN —> CLOSE ]:

                  a) CLOCKWISE rotation of upper handle relative to lower handle should be
                      FORCEFUL.

                      *(Wringing out a wet towel)

                  b) BLACK line will align with RED line.
                      *(A palpable registration & audible click is commonly perceived).

           3) UNLOCKING the capture mechanism [CLOSE->OPEN]:

                  a) COUNTERCLOCKWISE rotation of upper handle relative to lower handle

                       should be done without exerting simultaneous downward pressure.

                       *(Avoid compressing upper handle against lower handle).

                   b) BLACK line will align with GREEN line.

                       *(A palpable registration & audible click is commonly perceived).
