P. 8
4) During harvesting, Inserting Trephine into cortical defect:
a) Rotationally oscillate the device with slight forward advancing pressure
(in essence the serrated projecting surface cuts or microfractures the
cancellous bone) and avoid advancement of the trephine without rotation
(this will produce longer and less compressed cores of cancellous bone).
b) When sufficient depth of trephine penetration has occurred, based upon
the depth of cancellous bone (the bottom of the second window/
fenestration is 5 cm proximal to the distal tip), or when cortical limits
(increased resistance to advancement) are met; lock the device in the
closed position, and rotate the device in a clockwise manner while
withdrawing it.
5) DONT’S
a) DONT rotate upper handle from OPEN<—>CLOSE when:
i) Trocar tip is attached, OR;
ii) Plastic tamp is inside shaft of trephine.
b) DONT HARVEST in the CLOSED position.
c) DO NOT attempt to extrude harvested bone with device in CLOSED
(LOCKED) position
d) DO NOT use a mallet or hammering action to drive device into any
bone cavity.
e) DONT lever the trephine within the cortical defect.
*{This may result in deformation of the thin-walled trephine}
