I believe Fisher’s chemical tests are reproducible
in laboratory conditions and can no longer be denied. I haven’t found a scientific challenge of it, but there are numerous critiques. Renown existentialist James Park contends that Fisher is asserting that “love is a subcategory of sex” and that she is denying the “higher dimensions” of love.16 Whereas I believe that the fact that evolution is involved in love doesn’t deny higher dimensions at all. Instead it gives a rock-hard base for the higher dimensions.
Even if Fisher’s findings are debatable, her attitude is not—if you believe in evolution. Really, all you need look at is the bizarreness of the human sex act. The enveloping of the penis by the vagina or the penetration of the vagina by the penis is ... yes, poetry, but also one of the most animal poems humans can write. The loss of control during extended foreplay and satisfying orgasm is further proof that some alien force is taking over the human brain, for all its famous objectivity. Some animal force that originated with the first single-cell fusions two billion years ago on planet Earth, and gained power though salamander sexual trysts, dinosaur dances, and Cro-Magnon romances.
We should look at love as something somewhat understandable, though not controllable. And we
