transportation all the way around our free, energy- gushing sun. That’s over 600 million miles, or the equivalent of about 25,000 free trips around the world — and with four gloriously changing seasons thrown in as we travel!
To fully realize our freethinking ideal we liberals need to stretch freethinking boundaries as far as they can go in both negative and positive ways — and in every important sphere. C’est la freethinking vie.
Another reason we liberals don’t politically dominate may be the staggering breadth of information from which we must choose. These include all the world’s religions, economics, lifestyles and cutting-edge science — and all amplified by the infinity of our freethinking imaginations.
This vast terrain can cause vast confusion. Think of just some of the traditions liberals have recently questioned, many for the first time in history: To make war or construct love, individually consume or jointly commune, share or buyer beware, tolerate or alienate, praise or blaspheme, marry or love free, abort or raise, munch meat or veg out, work for the man or follow the bliss, and smoke toke drop pop or what not — or not.
Musician James Taylor put it this way: “Sail on home to Jesus won’t you good girls and boys. I’m all in pieces you can have your own choice. But I can see a heavenly band full of angels and they’re coming to set me free....”2
