Liberals aren’t in pieces just because of religion, but also because of our profound new freedoms in so many areas. And though many of us are Christian, we aren’t at all sure whether a “band full of angels” will be coming to help sort it all out. Our minds
are sometimes a cauldron of disillusionments or excitements over what we thought just yesterday were time-tested truths.
Having to process all this causes us to veer so far into the comforting miasma of ideal abstractions that sometimes earthbound practicality is lost. And these abstractions make it much harder to accomplish the compromises necessary to form a coherent, effective political party.
C’est la freethinking vie ... again.
So as we spin around Earth’s axis at about a 1,000 mph, speed around the sun at about 70,000 mph, rocket around the Milky Way at about 486,000 mph, and accelerate away from all of the billions of other galaxies at more than a 1,000,000 mph per mega parsec, hold onto you hats! We’ll certainly end up millions of freethinking miles away from where we started. Yet incredibly, we’ll somehow be in the same place too.
