Book Club
Book Club is for boys with a real love of reading. Every term a book is selected from suggestions made by the members of the group. All group members then read the book (having acquired it themselves - books are not provided by the school) at the same pace, covering usually a few chapters a week. What has been read is discussed during the next session. We explore the characters, plot, settings, writing style, genre and themes during our discussions.
Over the years we have read a wide variety of novels, ranging from the very famous Anthony Horowitz’s Stormbreaker to popular fiction such as David Walliams’ Mr Stink. If you often lose yourself in a book then this is the club for you! We have a Lower School and Upper School club.
Buggy Builders
Year 6 boys help build a small electric car in which they can actually ride. Each week they learn new skills related to engineering as well as appreciating green issues. Not quite death defying, but exciting, especially when they drive the buggy which they’ve built!
Chess
There are two clubs, a serious Master Class and a general session for all boys. Some join leagues to compete against their school friends while others turn up to play friendly games. Boys enter competitions with some experiencing success at local and national level. This a charged club and run by Mr P Lam from the Coventry Chess Academy.
