 WAKE UP AND DO YOUR THING
money might be selling shoes, working in a bank or cooking in a restaurant. If they aren"t passionate about their jobs then this is just a cause-and-effect project: I cook, I get paid. I don"t cook I don"t get paid.
If you absolutely love selling shoes, working in the bank or cooking food, and feel it"s your purpose in life, then it becomes a wonderful activity that you can"t wait to leap out of bed for in the morning to get stuck into. And if you also care deeply about how your job adds magic to the lives of those you serve, that"s inspirational.
Your Statement of Fortune says what you do: your project/job/calling is HOW you do it. Take, !I crystalize real good” (his precise words), for example from the prior list. These are the words of a talk-show host in Birmingham, Alabama who had me uncover his Statement of Fortune live on the air. When he thought back through his life he realized he"d always had a gift for summarizing. So today he can say what he does is, !I crystalize real good.” And when asked, !how do you do that?” he can say, !By interviewing guests and quickly summarizing what they"ve said in ways that stick in people"s minds.”
Susan (from the previous story) and I both get paid today for what we used to get in trouble for when we were younger. And we"re not alone—many of my workshop students discovered their purpose by examining what they were actually doing when got into trouble way back.
