The Mariana Trench is perhaps the most isolated place on the planet. Because of
its extreme depth, the pressure at the bottom of the Mariana Trench is incredibly 3 Reread the text. Complete the Fact File.

in darkness. Although two explorers went there in 1960, Cameron was the first to film

For this incredible expedition, Cameron traveled in a submersible called the

We know less about the deepest points on our planet than we do about the surface
of Mars. But the samples Cameron collected will give scientists a lot of information. Ascent time
When they analyze the rocks, they might discover more about the shape of the land
and the earthquakes that cause tsunamis. And by studying the organisms that survive
there, perhaps scientists can even learn more about how life began!
