INTRODUCTION

These teaching materials are designed to help the students to meet the
needs to improve their English for Academic Purposes or study skills in
the areas of listening, reading, and writing.

                     To the teachers

These teaching materials are arranged in an orderly manner based on the RPS
(Lesson Plan) designed by the ESP (English for Specific Purposes) team.
Teachers can use them effectively and properly by following the units in the
materials. There are 14 units to be delivered to the students in 14 weeks or 28
sessions. Each unit is to be finished in a week that is 90 minutes of study time
per session for teachers to handle. The 90-minute study time is mandatory by
following the pre-arranged campus schedule and the additional sessions must be
arranged to support it. The schedules of those sessions are based on the
agreement between students and teachers. There are two tests to evaluate the
outcomes of students' learning. One is in the middle of the semester, the Mid
Term Test, and the other is in the end, the Final Test.

The organization of the teaching materials

Week 3 through week 7, the students learn how to read effectively by
skimming, scanning, understanding the reference, finding the meaning of the
