The Arizona Black Sheep planned a ride to visit Mel and Tina Harper in Fort Mohave, Arizona who just retired from the Black Sheep ministry. The attendance for this ride started out as a good size group but, as the date of the ride got closer, some people needed to back out due to scheduling conflicts and then, a few days before the ride, all but three backed out due to a heavy storm coming through our riding route.
I was now concerned that Mel and Tina would be disappointed of the small number of people since the original number going on this ride was much larger. I talked to two Black Sheep members about the situation and both said, “You need to go”. So the three amigo’s (Dale Turberville, Todd Carter and myself) rode through the wind and rain and eventually made it to Mel and Tina’s home.
What a blessing the visit was for so many reasons.
This visit needed to be a small group because a bigger
group would not have lead to the
deep fellowship time that was
needed. Also, while having a
wonderful dinner prepared by Tina
and her son Shane, we discussed
the meaning of retirement with
regard to the Black Sheep ministry.
Mel and Tina thought when you
retired you were out of the ministry
and could not wear your Black
Sheep member patch, shirt, hat,
etc. I told Mel and Tina that when
you retire from Black Sheep it just
