October is a month for harvest festivals, debates on pumpkin spice lattes or no pumpkin spice lattes and page turning
mysteries! Don’t be spooked by the Retreat Library inventory. Come check out a book or two. Because the library space
is limited, we ask that you donate gently used books with recent publication dates (2023-2024 preferred). The volunteers
would greatly appreciate the books being returned in the condition in which they were checked out. And if you left your
title on the airplane that is bound for Iceland, no worries, just leave a message in the return book basket.
If you like to read books about books, check out this list of titles. I will leave the authors for you to research. The Wishing Game, The Dictionary
of Lost Words, The Midnight Library, The Library of the Unwritten, The Story Collector, The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry, The Librarianist, The
Book of Lost Names, The Library of Borrowed Hearts, The Book Woman’s Daughter, Days at the Morisaki Bookshop, The Booklover’s Library,
and Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore. Many of these have been best sellers but some may be intriguing titles to a community of readers.
What is on my nightstand? Night Watch by Jayne Anne Philips – winner of the Pulitzer Prize for 2014. “A mesmerizing story about a mother
and daughter seeking refuge in the chaotic aftermath of the Civil War. A brilliant portrait of family endurance against all odds.”
