FEAR UNMA S KED
and predicted 510,000 deaths in the UK and some
estimated and predicted 2.2 million deaths in the
United States, as detailed in a report by the Imperial
College. But we should ask ourselves, even if that
happened, should the country shut down?
Fear unchecked by facts—that’s the only reason
why the country shut down. According to the CDC’s
data from 2017, one person dies every six seconds
from the top ten leading causes of death. Whether
13
from heart disease, traffic accidents, medical
malpractice, on average, 5,703 people die every day.
This was all before the coronavirus, and irrespective of
the coronavirus, we do not shut down local, citywide,
regional, national, international, or world economies
because of it. There is no reason to kill our economy
by shutting it down solely based on these fears.
Why didn’t our fearless leaders convey these
facts while communicating with the public? This
is unchecked sensationalism comes with a real
consequence: trillions of dollars in damages lost by
small businesses and trillions of dollars in stimulus
by the US government, which already has $23
14
trillion in debt which grows by the second. Not
15
compelling? How about those killing themselves
exceeding coronavirus death rates in some places.
