High time for
S1 in Benmore
The entirety of S1 were given a taste of
the outdoor life in a three-day visit to
Benmore. The pupils took part in a range
of activities, including canoeing, climbing,
gorge walking and mountain biking. They
were also kept busy with an array of
team-building activities, an eerie night
walk and a disco. On their return, S1-3M
were asked to reflect on their time at
Benmore in the form of poetry. The pick
of them, by Eilidh Allan, is reproduced
below.
Two Worlds
The mountains stretched up to the sky
as though greeting it like a dear friend.
The bright sun touched the loch gently,
comfortingly, and shone through the
branches dappling the moss.
I stood in the middle of all this beauty
and turned and said goodbye to the
perfection of the wild and plunged into
the darkness.
The sunlight disappeared as the
instructors clipped me in and I went
down, down, down
into the darkness.
Down
past the border of two different worlds
and into the darkness of the cave.
Down
into another universe
down
down
down
into the cave.
I reached the bottom and stood there
for a second or two marvelling at the
beauty of nature’s two universes.
