Fundraising efforts by pupils, supported by
parents and staff, had been a feature of lockdown
life – and that trend continued in August, before
the new session had even begun.
Disappointed by the cancelation of the S2
French exchange to Nantes, scheduled for June Euan and Douglas Richards on the West Highland Way
2020, Eva Morton and Aine Sandilands (both S3)
cycled 863 miles between them, covering the
equivalent distance from Edinburgh to Nantes in
the form of a virtual challenge. The girls raised
£1,660 for Social Bite, a charity that seeks to
improve the lives of homeless people in
               Scotland.
Siblings Elizabeth (P6), William (P4) and
               George Beattie (Nursery), meanwhile, joined
‘Team Edinburgh’ from the Royal Hospital for Sick
Children by taking part in a distance challenge
to raise money for Edinburgh Children’s Hospital
               Charity.
The ‘Lap the Map’ challenge took the form
of a virtual race around the world against ‘Team
               Glasgow’ from Glasgow Children’s Hospital,
aiming to raise as much money as possible.
Elizabeth, William and George contributed to their
team’s efforts by walking or running three miles
               every day for a month.
Another trio of siblings also raised money The Beattie family on one of their daily outings
for worthwhile causes. Douglas (S6) and Euan
Richards (S4) walked and camped along the West
Highland Way, covering 96 miles on foot, raising
               £1,400 for Marie Curie.
Not to be outdone, Kay Richards (S2) kept
herself busy by organising a bake sale that raised
£100 for the Bethany Christian Trust.
PE teacher Andrew Easson, the ex-Scotland
Sevens and Edinburgh Rugby player, joined
three fellow retired rugby internationals, Ruaridh
Jackson, Ryan Grant and Richie Vernon, in a
Tries2Trials charity challenge of cycling the
               Caledonian Way in 36 hours.
The quartet completed the 234-mile route in
34 hours, starting from Campbeltown at 8am on
the Saturday and arriving in Inverness around
               6pm the next day.
The group raised £10,000 for Doddie Weir’s My
Name’5 Doddie Foundation and Unite Against
               Cancer.
