A collaborative art project inspired by a
Scottish glen came to fruition in April when Mrs Carole McGirr
the efforts of months of work were revealed
in a display exhibited in the Lauriston Phoebe Brown (P7) Neve MacDonald (P7)
building.
With P7 engaged in a Scottish Landscape
topic, inspired by artist Bethany Snaddon and
the Dunfermline Tapestry Project, the Art and
Design Department decided to teach pupils
how to weave.
Mrs McGirr made miniature looms using a
laser cutter and Mrs Duffy prepared the warp
in every one, ready to be woven by pupils.
We resourced a beautiful photograph of Glen
Coe, and Mrs McGirr, together with Mrs Duffy,
planned the distribution of wool, loom and Glencoe - the inspiration for the weave collaborative
needles to all P7 pupils (who were remote The unwoven plan
learning at the time). They received these
in the post and following lesson instruction
with their teacher, they completed their
own individual landscape and returned the
completed work to school in a stamped,
addressed envelope.
Again, Mrs Duffy and Mrs McGirr
reorganised the completed looms. Mrs Duffy
spent time making a few repairs to some that
had been unfortunately damaged in the post,
setting up a Heriot’s version of The Repair
Shop, and – like the TV show – she worked
some miracles.
