Summer is here and it is hot-hot-hot! Many of us are planning get-
aways and while there is something about “vacation-mode” that
leads us all to splurge a little, there are plenty of ways to avoid com-
ing home with a few extra pounds.
1. Start your day with a healthy but hearty breakfast. Not everyone
wants to cook or plan meals on vacation, but it is a healthy
alternative to a huge breakfast buffet or brunch. If your
accommodations have a kitchen, commit to having breakfast
“in” at least a few mornings of your stay. Find a market close
by and grab some of everyone’s favorites. If you’re traveling
by car, stock a cooler with yogurt, fruit, and a carton of egg
whites/beaters. Dry goods like oatmeal and English muffins
travel well.
2. Stay hydrated and refrain from binge drinking alcohol.
3. A protein bar or “ready-to-drink” shake could replace a huge
lunch if you had a hearty breakfast.
4. Walk or bicycle EVERYWHERE that you can instead of driving.
5. Enjoy the great outdoors! Visit a park, play cornhole or dance to
music on your phone.
6. Look into the gym or fitness classes offered at your resort. Try
something new, maybe a stretch class or beginners’ yoga.
The common theme is to MOVE! Whatever that means for you. Sitting is the new
smoking. Try setting an alarm on your phone to move every 30 minutes and while
you’re up, get a drink of water.
For those of you who are challenged by movement in general, please call the Fitness
Center at 561-549-0793. We would be happy to discuss your options for movement
with you. Everyone can benefit from more activity, no matter what stage of life you
are in.
