C. Present perfect tense
The present perfect tense shows that an action or condition started in the past, is continuing
now, and will probably continue into the future. When the person thinks about this action or
condition, she/he connects the past action to the present time. He/she sees a connection
between the past and present. Maybe the person will continue or repeat the action or
condition.
Mary has been here for two months. (She came in January. Now it is March and she
is still here. She will probably be here for several months.)
Since I arrived I have gone to two shopping centers, an interesting museum, and a
large park. (I will be here for two years and I will probably visit many more places.)
Tony has taken twenty pictures this week. (Today is Thursday. Tony started taking
pictures on Monday. The week is not finished and he might take some more pictures.)

D. For/since
We often use for and since with the present perfect. Use for with a period of time. Use since for
a point in time such as a day, date, month, or year.
Ali has been here for six months.
He has been here since January.
He has studied English since he was a child.
