OCTOBER HOT TALKS
On Tuesday, October 8, the CMBA welcomed Cleveland Municipal
Court Administrative and Presiding Judge Michelle Earley, and
Director of Pre-Trial Services for Cleveland Municipal Court,
Stephanie Pope-Earley.
Judge Michelle Earley is pioneering reform in Cleveland Municipal Court
with new programs designed to reduce the amount of time in jail inmates
are spending awaiting trial. Judge Earley discussed the court’s program,
how it started, how they are making progress and what comes next.
Ms. Pope-Earley (no relation) gave an overview on the scope of her work.
The discussion was moderated by Judge Ray Headen, 8th District Court
of Appeals.

MEDIATION TRAINING
The CMBA is a proud partner in supporting Cuyahoga
County’s Human Rights Commission. On September 24th,
we hosted mediation training to teach volunteer lawyers how
to handle discrimination cases. These volunteers will work to
find solutions before cases are advanced to the new county
Human Rights Commission. Cuyahoga County Asst. Director
of Law and CMBA Board of Directors member Awatef Assad
led the push for this legislation. She says LGBTQ citizens need
protection. “This is a human rights issue, plain and simple —
and everyone deserves to be treated fairly.”
