P. 3

How you define yourself as a leader must be established
by God or it will be established by man. Understand what
I'm saying: Men will be important to your growth and
development. Jesus is the ultimate example of this. The
bible says it was a matter of routine for Jesus to be found
in the temple exchanging ideas and learning from the
Elders of His day (Luke 2:41-52). Jesus had God's seal of
approval. Do you? You must be sure that the call you
have received is God's anointing (David) and not man's
appointing (Herod). Knowing this alone, will help sustain
you during those hours when it is darkest.

Don't be drawn to the celebrity, glitz, or glamour of
leadership. Why? Because the "Spirit-Led" leader
realizes that there are times that real leaders will find
themselves alone and the only friend they have is the one
who "called" them (Matthew 26:36-40). Leadership is
made up of two functioning words: Leader and Ship.
Imagine in your mind, a naval battle group. One of the
ships in that group must assume the responsibility of
being the "leader” ship. This position isn't necessarily the
glory position nor is it the safest position. But it has to be
done! If you are not willing to die for your sheep, you
have the wrong sheep or they have the wrong shepherd.
The bible is full of patterns of both good leaders and not
so good leaders and the one thing you must come to
grips with is: you are not perfect. No man is. The
perfection that God demands is spiritual maturity, and a
life consecrated to Him. (2 Peter 1:3-9). As a leader, you
should be confident of this one thing: You are being led
by the Spirit of God.
