FRESH WINGS
BY PASTOR MIKE
ISAIAH 40:31 “But those who wait upon God get fresh
strength. They spread their wings and soar like eagles,
They run and don’t get tired, they walk and don’t lag
behind.
Very few times do we read Isaiah 40 within the context it was written. It is both
prophetic and emphatic. Simply put, it is a look into the future when God would
send the Messiah to rescue His people. It is emphatic, in that God shows that
there is a consequence for sin. The prophet is told to proclaim from the mountain
top this message of restoration and pardon.
It was the custom of the East to send a herald or messenger to clear the path of
the one who was to follow: "to make straight the path". John had such a
responsibility. Israel, as was the case during the time of Isaiah, had strayed away
from God, and the message was clear: Repent for the Kingdom of God is at hand.
Grace is not a license or a shield of protecction for a life that continues to be
immersed in darkness. It is a means of escape from the dark clutches of sin, into
His marvelous light. Who else could do this? Who else could redeem you--but
God? To receive this gracious gift of redemption is to be as the eagle who puts on
fresh wings, or the young who are not easily tired. It is the assurance that the
intensity of life will not cause you to faint. This is only possible if you wait for, look
for, and hope in the Lord.
John 12:46
“I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who
believes in me should stay in darkness.”
