The invitation to take part in this exhibition came at a time in my
life when I was isolated and scared about what my future would be.
I was living in Dublin with my children after my marriage to an
Irish diplomat had broken down.
Marital breakdown while on posting is a traumatic experience. It
happened to me. Every aspect of my life was affected. It took
courage to put my head above the parapet and ask for help.
In my experience there was no one listening who was prepared to
recognize the severity of my situation.
If DFA has a duty of care to the officers, spouses and families on
posting, I have not seen it. If IFAFA has a voice, I have not heard
it.
In the interests of balance, I believe my story should be heard. I
sincerely hope this exhibition empowers other contributors to share
their experiences and that no one else has had an experience
similar to mine.
I am no longer #working4IRL. I am #working4ME.
