Mid-Year Reflecting
Mid-year meetings do not replace the need for consistent communication
between the supervisor and the work group. It is also not an evaluation,
though it certainly provides the opportunity for two-way feedback and mid-
year course adjustments if need be.
While there is no formal process to follow or form to complete, we
recommend documenting the conversation as a part of continuous feedback
and goal planning between you and your team members.
Below is a list of topical areas to guide you in the conversation:
» Evaluate and discuss the employee’s progress toward established goals. Consider whether new goals have
arisen and/or priorities have changed during the year. Review whether the employee’s progress on set goals and
projects, including managerial goals, has been effective overall. Revise established goals and identify new goals
for the balance of the year as needed.
» Review employees’ professional development. Review training and education programs the employee has
attended and identify any barriers to attendance that may have arisen. Discuss professional growth demonstrated
through successful work projects or tasks, competencies displayed, and skills newly attained.
» Next steps. Identify new professional development opportunities or new projects for the employee to undertake
and/or new teams they can participate in to ensure professional growth. Work with your team member to update
their IDP with training needed to support their professional growth. If they haven’t completed an IDP yet, help
them get started!

Leadership Corner
Welcome to the Leadership Corner, a dedicated space for managers to share
their insights, experiences, and strategies.
John Degni, Vice President
2024 has been a literal nightmare. The funding issues and budget crisis started in late
January and continue. We had to cut positions for the time in my 25-year tenure and we
are still struggling to meet targets with very little clarity on resolutions and timeframes.
Uncertainty is our new normal. That said we have some great milestones and I feel that
some good has come from the situation:
» The MIL/PMO GFAA Team is using tools such as Deltek and Program and Project
Management (PPM ) to craft a process and host portfolio management for our
clients. This is key, because actions such as these will go a long way in preventing
future funding crises.
