Celebrating Labor Day
As we take a moment to reflect on the long weekend, it’s worth reflecting on the significance of Labor
Day, which has been a national holiday since 1894. This day is deeply rooted in the labor movement of
the 19th century, a time when America’s workers faced harsh conditions. It honors those who fought
tirelessly for the rights we now consider standard, such as safe working environments, the 40-hour
workweek, the 8-hour workday, and the end of child labor. Their efforts have paved the way for the
social and economic progress we enjoy today.
