Work, life, bowl!
Two years ago, COVID-19 lockdowns changed our world—the pandemic
introduced us to masks and social distancing and remote work became our
new normal. As traditional office life was set aside, at least temporarily, MIL
employees stepped up and quickly adjusted. While we applaud our team’s
flexibility and adaptability, we nonetheless recognize and appreciate that these
major lifestyle shifts brought other struggles, chief among them maintaining a
positive and healthy work-life balance.
Sydney Spells is one MIL team member who has broken the work-life code
during the COVID age. Sydney’s the IT Systems Administrator for MIL’s
Corporate Service Center and he’s an MVP at both MIL and the “lanes.”
Sydney recently bowled a perfect 300! And his last strike was captured for
everyone to enjoy on his TikTok. Sydney’s historic game was bowled as part
of his Monday Night Mixers league at the AMF Bowling Center in Waldorf,
MD on February 21. Sydney acknowledges that he’s been working towards the
elusive “perfect game” for nearly 20 years. To the uninitiated, a perfect game
in bowling is 12 strikes in a row totaling 300 points. According to Golf Digest,
the odds of a PBA bowler rolling a 300 are 460 to 1, while it's 11,500 to 1 for the
average bowler! Similar to a hole-in-one in golf, the perfect game in bowling
is rare. Sydney’s been close before, with scores of 279 and 280, but pushing over the hump and playing that perfect game was a
dream realized.
Sydney’s accomplishment will be memorialized by the United States Bowling Congress (USBC), and he will be presented with a
“300-game ring” later this year. In addition, Sydney will be acknowledged by MOTIV Inc., the bowling ball company of the Pride
ball he used to roll his perfect game. What’s next for Sydney? To help his league win 1st place at the league championships in
May, and bowl 800-series or above in the upcoming year.
Congratulations on joining the 300 Club, Sydney!
Women making the difference.
During the month of March, we celebrated Women’s History Month. We used this time to reflect on the courage of women
in past generations and celebrate how their efforts and bravery afforded women the opportunities and freedoms they enjoy
today. We also celebrated and honored the women who make a difference in our own lives each day—our mothers, sisters,
daughters, teachers, leaders, mentors, etc. At MIL, we also took the opportunity to honor the women around us who make the
difference within our company. We celebrated the vital role our staff play, including our executive leadership, corporate staff,
administrative teams, and government partners. Thank you to all the MIL women who make the difference!
