Rallye Portugal 1-5 March 1988
For 1988, TO 82978F was loaned to the Lancia shadow team, Jolly Club, for the reining Group N Champion, Alex Fiorio, son of Abarth supremo, Cesare Fiorio.
The 1988 edition of Rallye Portugal also brought the debut of the all new integrale version of the Delta. Markku Alen, Miki Biasion and Mikael Ericsson put the new car through its paces.
Fiorio would take the fight to the all new cars in the older HF4WD specification car, ending the first leg in
fourth place. Over the second and third leg, Fiorio would pile on the pressure moving up to third place after Auriol, who was lying in third place, and only a few seconds up the road, retired.
A few stages later, Fiorio would find himself moving into second place after taking time out of the Frenchman Yves Loubet in a similar Jolly Club entered HF4WD. A string of top times and three stage wins would keep him in a comfortable second position right to the end. A fabulous result for what was no longer a currrent car.
Acropolis Rally 29 May - 1 June 1988
After Portugal, TO 82978F was upgraded with the integrale body panels and latest specification drivetrain in preparation for Yves Loubet to use at the Acropolis Rally.
Loubet quickly found himself in fifth position overall behind the other factory Lancia's and Juha Kankkunen's Toyota Celica ST185. After taking time out of teammate Fiorio, Loubet would move into fourth place but it would unfortunately be short lived. Loubet would roll off the road and out of the rally.
