During the culminating activity for the 19th Paaralan sa Konsulado (PSK) held last July 22, the Consulate General led
by Deputy Consul General Felipe F. Carino III and officers and members of the Association of Fil-Am Teachers of America Inc.
(AFTA) led by current President Dr. Roxanne Cajigas, welcomed about 50 school-age children who participated in a multi-
disciplinary Philippine cultural and heritage program for five Saturdays during the school summer break in the U.S.

This year’s PSK delivered a series of classes aimed at increasing Filipino language facility, raising art and history
awareness, and introducing dance and musical performances to participants, including modules on Fiesta and Heroes,
Rizalism 2017, Pambansang Kasuotan (by Mr. Erno Hormillosa), and an anti-Bullying Empowering Talk by Dr. Joie Calub.

In his remarks, Deputy Consul General Felipe F. Carino thanked AFTA and acknowledged their support for programs
that educate and encourage FilAms and Filipino children to grow in appreciation for traditional Philippine values, culture and
history. The success of PSK would not have materialized without the leadership AFTA, which continually update the PSK
curriculum and programs year in and year out, he added.

Dr. Cajigas thanked all the parents for entrusting their children to AFTA to learn Philippine culture, songs, and dances,
and expressed gratitude to volunteer teachers, AFTA officers and the Consulate General in New York that made the 19th
edition of PSK a huge success.

The Paaralan sa Konsulado is a flagship project of the Consulate General and AFTA. The PSK counts numerous Fil-

Am children as alumni who have moved on to become (Continued from page 9… Next Generation Fil-Ams)
