Stories and Sorbetes Highlight

New York’s commemoration of Buwan ng Wika 2017.
Dubbed “Kuwentong Pambata” or Children’s Story time,
the session held at the Philippine Center in New York featured a
lesson on the Philippine language by Filipino-American Teacher
Ramil Buenaventura. The featured book was “Sino po Sila? Sa
Daanan” (Who are the People on Your Street) by Jomike Tejido.
The language and story-telling session was followed by
a demonstration of sorbetes-making by acclaimed Filipino Chef
Romy Dorotan of Purple Yam, New York. Mr. Dorotan showed
the children how to make homemade mango ice cream.
The activity was held to further promote interest in the
Filipino language among young Filipino-Americans and is
support activity to the yearly Paaralan sa Konsulado activity held
every summer.
On hand at the event were Consul General Theresa
Dizon-De Vega, Cultural Officer Olive Magpile and other
Consulate personnel.
Philippine Madrigal Singers Wow New York and New Jersey Audiences
The world-renowned Philippine Madrigal Singers once again entertained New York and New Jersey audiences with
their award-winning brand of chorale music in a series of performances this October.
Performing a repertoire of sacred and popular music for their performance at St. Aiden’s Church, St. Peter’s University
in Jersey City, New Jersey, they enthralled audiences with favorite Madrigal arrangements. At their St. Ignatius of Loyola
Church in New York City performance, the group popularly known as the MADZ, exhibited their superb vocal technique, and
polished performances for a program of predominantly sacred music.
Their sacred music repertoire featured both new and old works, some composed and arranged specifically for the
Madrigal Singers along with some American spiritual pieces.
The MADZ likewise had a special performance at the United
Nations ECOSOC Chamber at the United Nations Headquarters in
New York City on 10 October 2017. Performing before a select
audience of diplomats, United Nations personnel and other officials,
the MADZ showed why they are world - renowned as global
Ambassadors for culture, music, and peace.
During their US Northeast stint, the Madrigal Singers had a
breakfast reception hosted by Consul General Theresa Dizon-De
Vega and the Philippine Consulate General in New York and held
rehearsal sessions at the Kalayaan Hall of the Philippine Center.
