Versatile Filipino Artist Del Avila Bermudez Showcases the Sarimanok Design in New York

Versatile Filipino Artist Del Avila ermudez II opened his first one-man exhibit at the Lobby-Gallery of the Philippine
Center in New York. Del, an architecture graduate of St. Louis University in Baguio City, Philippines, was a former member
of the Bayanihan National Folkloric Dance Troupe where he was a performer and costume designer. His previous artistic
output designing Philippine handicrafts in Baguio coupled with costume design work paved the way for his new avocation –
painting.

His exhibit at the Philippine Center focused on various interpretations of the classic Sarimanok design in intricate
and delicate patterns. As explained by the artist at the exhibit opening, his experimentation with oil and the Sarimanok
design led to his innovative use of upholstery needle as his main tool for creating his works.

FilArts Presents “Pista ng Kulay” Exhibit in New York

The Filipinas Institute for the Advancement of Arts and Culture
(FILARTS), Inc. opened its group show at the Lobby-Gallery of the
Philippine Center in New York on 6 March 2017.

Dubbed “Pista ng Kulay (Feast of Colors: Culture and Unity)”, the
FilArts participating artists include – Art Zamora, Rene V. Canlas, Roy
Espinosa, Bonnie Jimenez, Maryrose Gisbert, Oying Madrilejos, and
Khristina Manansala.

The representative works all celebrate various aspects of and
approaches to color in art. FilArts aims to share with a wider audience
Philippine culture through the artworks of its different members and to
further elevate and propagate a stronger sense of awareness of Philippine
artistic output among a global audience.

EXHIBIT OF ART WORKS BY FILIPINA ARTISTS LAUNCHED IN NEW YORK

The Philippine Consulate General and the Philippine
Center in New York launched the art exhibit "Proudly Pinay: An
Exhibit of Works by Filipina Artists" on 20 March 2017 at the lobby
of the Philippine Center in commemoration of International
Women's Month.

The exhibit featured paintings and artworks of Filipina

artists from the exclusive collection of the Philippine Center in New

York. Among the pieces on display are the Basket Weaver (1974)

by Norma Belleza, Purificacion y Saturnina (2015) by Greta Lood,

Abstract (1981) by Pacita Abad, and Exodus of Filipinos (2006) by

Zny Laygo. Viewing the exhibit at the Philippine Center Lobby are Consul General Ma.

The event was being held in honor of Filipina artists around Theresa Dizon-de Vega (center), with (from the left) Consul and Manager of
