Behaviour Management
All staff must make themselves aware
of behaviour management information
and plans for the customers for whom
they are providing transport. If you
anticipate that the customer may
exhibit dangerous behaviours, or could
pose safety concerns, consult with
your Coordinator before undertaking
the journey.
At the first sign of concern over the
behaviour of a customer during transit,
you should:
•
Park in the nearest safe place
•
Turn off the engine
•
Attempt to calm the situation unless
feeling threatened
•
If necessary, get out of the vehicle
•
Leave windows down, stay close to
the vehicle.
If you are feeling threatened or are
injured, you must call 000 and ask for
the police, then your Just Better Care
office. If the customer wants to leave
the vehicle, let them, then follow at a
safe distance and contact the office.
Traffic Infringements
Just Better Care expects and requires
safe, lawful driving at all times. The
Australian road rules always apply.
As the driver, it is your responsibility
to ensure that you are aware of the
road rules and all regulations (such as
restraints for children, transporting
animals, mobile phone use and using
seatbelts). If you are unsure, consult
the relevant authority in your state.
You will be responsible for any traffic
infringements you receive during the
course of your duties. This includes
any fines incurred while using a
Just Better Care car.
32 Travel Reimbursement
Kilometres should be claimed
when you use your car for customer
transport or shopping, in accordance
with your applicable workplace
agreement. Record the number of
kilometres and details of travel in the
Mobile App or on your timesheet.
It is important to ask which shopping
centre or venue the customer would
like to visit, and ensure that the
kilometres for the service have been
approved and discussed with the
Coordinator prior to the service. Refer
to your workplace agreement for
details of particular entitlements for
travel between customers.
Note—Travel expenses for kilometres
that are not reimbursable with
Just Better Care (depending on
your workplace agreement) may be
tax deductible. Be sure to keep an
accurate log of kilometres travelled.
Keep all receipts related to your
vehicle costs and check any possible
deductions with your accountant or
tax agent at tax time.
Customer Cars
Under no circumstances should you
use a customer’s car when providing
support services (for accessible
vehicles, please refer to the Motor
Vehicle policy). If a customer requests
you use their car during a service,
please inform them of the
Just Better Care policy and inform
your Coordinator of the request.
