Even if a customer’s home is protected
by an RCD or the meter board, this
cannot be relied upon to provide
adequate protection unless the
customer has been diligent in having
the RCD inspected and tested on
a yearly basis. All staff working in
customers’ homes using electrical
devices such as vacuum cleaners,
kitchen appliances and personal
grooming appliances will be provided
with a portable RCD.
The Safety Switch supplied to you
must be used every time you plug in
an electrical appliance in a customer’s
home. Instructions for use are included
in the Safety Switch package. Contact
your Coordinator should you have any
questions about how to correctly use it.
Note—Use of a Safety Switch does not
eliminate the need for basic electrical
safety precautions. You should test
the Safety Switch at least once every
three months to ensure it is working
properly. You will be asked by your
office to undertake a push-button test
and to return the Safety Switch to the
office temporarily for an annual test
performed by a qualified electrician.
The Safety Switch provided to you
when you commence your
employment remains the property of
Just Better Care. It is to be returned
when you stop working with
Just Better Care.
